Clean water is a human right.
The Why.
At this moment, 900 million people in the world do not have access to a source of safe water within 1 km of their home; 2.5 billion lack access to adequate sanitation, 1 in 4 in the developing world has none. Women and girls especially bear the burden of walking miles at a time 7 days a week to gather water from streams and ponds – full of water-borne disease that is making them and their families sick, and preventing them from getting an equal education.
Illness from drinking dirty water and the time lost fetching it robs entire communities of their futures.
Hope is put on hold in over half of the developing world’s primary schools without access to water and sanitation.
Hope is put on hold for teenage girls, when they lack of menstrual hygiene training and supplies, privacy, soap and safe, sufficient water. This is a primary reason why girls don’t achieve the educational opportunities that they should be afforded.
It left us wondering why. So, we decided to help. We’d like you to join us.
The What.
Access to safe water is foundational to the development of any community. Clean water restores hope and unlocks potential.
In rural Kenya and Uganda, we help school communities catch and store the rain, dig wells, maintain proper sanitation and hygiene practices. We help the schools develop sustainable income making activities like soap making to sell to their communities to help fund school supplies.
The support of pool and hot tub consumers, our Professional Dealer Network coupled with the support of a growing number of community Rotary Clubs and Rotary International enables careful project selection construction and rigorous long-term follow up and evaluation.
Our efforts at home amplify the voices of the poor and the nearly one billion people worldwide who don’t have access to clean, safe water – a basic human right.
We are not heroes.
Together with our collaborators, we’re just trying to be good neighbours by lending a hand to people we know can change the world. Without safe water and sanitation, life and livelihood are under threat.
Women and children spend hours each day fetching water, often under threat of violence.
8000 people die everyday from waterborne disease.
Lack of sanitation and privacy lead to early drop-out from school among girls.
Disputes over water jeopardize peace in every continent.
Drought and starvation threaten the lives and livelihoods of millions of people.
Every year, 40 billion hours are spent collecting and hauling water in Africa alone.
